I got a little crazy when I turned 19.  At youth group we had "weird hairdo" day, so Cindy Carol graciously did our hair for us.  Olmedo and I decided to match. It was fun to play around a little. :)

This picture was taken on my birthday.

My lovely birthday cake.  It is a horse. Please do not mistake it for a cow.

Well another year is gone and I am now nineteen.  I can't believe that I am nineteen. I do not feel it.  I have never really wanted to grow up.  For me the future has always been something scary.  I remember that when I turned 9 I cried because I did not want to grow up.  I longed for everything to remain the way it was, for Karl, Annie and I to always remain as children. I believe that if never never land had been a real place, I would have taken my family there and lived there,  In 2003 I wrote a poem one day when I was wishing Karl could come home and not go to college.  I called it Growing Up.

Growing up is not just getting older and growing in stature,
Growing up is a changing of emotions, a time to mature.
Brother and sister leave, times to say goodbye,
One is left alone, missing, with many a time to cry.
How I wish we needn't grow,
Just to be little again, just to trust and know.

I wish to be little again, to climb on to my daddy's lap,
To sleep on my mommy's shoulder, alas, to take the dreaded nap.
To climb tall trees and run joyful races,
To put my hand in a larger one, and run to keep up with long paces.
To hop from stone to stone, to be lost kids in a crisis.
To have a picnic for two, to be detectives with gadgets and devices.
To rake the yard with two others, to hide behind trees in nance wars,
To take to the pillows with smothers, to tap each other's knees while playing we're doctors.

Times lost to memory, to the past in which we can't take part,
What ever we do, wherever we go, let's always remain young at heart.

Growing up is a time of change, a time to get to know Him better.
It is a time to serve the Lord and worship our Creator.
Growing up is a time that changes us to fit God's mold.
It changes us from being children, to all of a sudden, adults.
Growing up is a part of life that is necessary,
And even though I need it, I still think it's scary.

So what I'm trying to say is,
I wish I didn't have to grow.
I wish I could just live safely.
Tucked under my parent's wing.
But God's plan is that I change,
And changing means to grow.
So inspite of the pain it causes me,
To become what I will be,
I trust the One who gave me life,
And prepare my wings for my flight.

A friendly smile costs nothing,
But it gives so very much.
It's as welcome as early flowers,
Or a gentle loving touch.

It enriches those who receive it,
Taking nothing from those who give.
That smile is always remembered
For as long as we're destined to live.

None are so rich and mighty,
That a smile won't brighten their day.
And none are so poor and deprived,
They can't afford to give one away.

A smile is a moment of pleasure,
In the home or to those we meet.
It's a countersign of our friendship,
As we stroll along the street.

It's cheer to those discouraged.
It is sunshine to those feeling lost.
The best thing to be said about it,
Is the fact that it has no cost.

It is something that can't be purchased,
Borrowed or stolen this day.
For it is something that has no value,
Until it is given away.
